Cholesterol is a complex fat compound that is naturally produced by the body to form cell membranes. Cholesterol is a combination of lipids (fats) and steroids. 80% of body cholesterol is produced by the liver and the remaining 20% comes from the foods we eat. Foods that are a lot of cholesterol mainly found in fat from animals, offal, egg yolks, milk, shellfish / oysters, dairy products, butter, etc.. Cholesterol is a substance which is in the foods we eat can increase blood cholesterol levels. But, as far as revenue is balanced with the need, your body will stay healthy. Dietary cholesterol is absorbed from the intestine and stored in the liver. Capable of regulating liver cholesterol levels in the blood stream and can secrete cholesterol if needed by the body. Cholesterol is not soluble in the liquid blood, for it to be sent to the entire body needs to be packaged together with proteins into particles called lipoproteins, which can be regarded as a 'carrier' (carrier) cholesterol in the blood.
LDL cholesterol (Low Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is dangerous type so often referred to as bad cholesterol. High LDL levels can lead to deposition of cholesterol in the blood vessels. HDL cholesterol (High Density Lipoprotein) is not dangerous because it can remove excess cholesterol in the arteries back to the liver, to be processed and disposed. HDL cholesterol prevents sediment in the arteries and protects blood vessels from the process of atherosclerosis (the formation of blockages in blood vessel walls).
Excess LDL cholesterol deposited on artery walls that would lead to narrowing and hardening of the arteries, or it is called atherosclerosis (plaque formation on blood vessel walls). If the narrowing and hardening is quite heavy, so the blood supply to the heart muscle is not sufficient in number, and there arose a pain or chest pain known as angina, and if continued will lead to death of heart muscle tissue is called myocardial infarction, and If this is widespread, it will causing a condition called heart failure (heart failure). If this blockage of blood vessels invade the brain, then it will be a stroke. This is where cholesterol (especially LDL) contribute negatively to health and should always be controlled.
